CEO and Director of Benderson Development Company of Sarasota, Florida, one of the nation’s largest privately held real estate development companies.

President and Director, March 1992 to Present Benderson Development Company Responsible for day-to-day operations of a multi-divisional real estate development company encompassing over 40 million square feet of commercial space with over 300 employees. Oversees all internal management divisions including leasing, legal, financing, accounting, construction, property management, personnel, planning and marketing.

Senior Vice President, April 1988 to March 1992 Benderson Development Company, Inc. Responsible for all internal corporate divisions relating to commercial real estate development concentrating primarily on retail shopping center growth.

Vice President of Development/Leasing, September 1982 to April 1988 Benderson Development Company, Inc. Responsible for all leasing activities and the supervision of six leasing representatives for entire company portfolio in excess of 8 million square feet.

Marketing Manager/Lease Representative, July 1978 – September 1982 Benderson Development Company, Inc. Served as leasing representative for all properties in New York State. Initiated leasing efforts for Niagara Factory Outlet Mall of the Board of while establishing an outlet mall division for the company.

Born and raised in Western New York, Randy, Lori and their three children moved to Sarasota in 2003 in connection with the relocation of the Benderson Corporate Headquarters. He attended the University of Buffalo and joined his father’s company in 1978.

Michael S. Bennett

Supervisor of Elections
Mr. Bennett took office as Manatee County Supervisor of Elections on January 8, 2013. Prior to that, he served in the Florida Senate from November 2002 until November 2012, Representing District 21, consisting of Manatee and Lee Counties and parts of Sarasota, Charlotte and DeSoto Counties. He chaired the Senate Community Affairs committee and served on the Senate Budget, Banking & Insurance, Criminal Justice, and Military Affairs, Space, & Domestic Security committees. Mr. Bennett served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2000 to 2002.

Born in Brainerd, Minnesota, Mr. Bennett moved to Bradenton with his family at 10 years old and is a proud graduate of Sarasota High School. Following high school, he joined the Navy and served 4 tours in Vietnam. After graduating with a BA and MBA from Drake University (Des Moines, Iowa), Mr. Bennett worked as an Associate Professor in the College of Business at Iowa State University, and subsequently at Drake University. From there he embarked on a business career ultimately founding Aladdin Ward Electric in Bradenton in 1985, and growing it into a thriving enterprise employing 175 people.

Currently, in addition to his duties as Supervisor of Elections, Mr. Bennett is a business development consultant with Bright Future Electric, and owner of two well-known Manatee County establishments: The Ellenton Ice & Sports Complex, and Linger Lodge. In his spare time he serves on numerous community boards. Mr. Bennett is an enthusiastic supporter of Mote Marine Laboratory, The Greater Sarasota Sertoma Club, and Southeastern Guide Dogs among others.

As a military veteran (U.S. Navy 1963 – 1967) Mr. Bennett remains devoted to veterans’ causes. His most treasured accomplishment is the fact that his lovely wife Dee said “yes” when he asked her to marry him. They celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary in November 2014.

Michael Klauber

Originally from Buffalo, NY, Michael Klauber is co-proprietor of the award-winning Michael’s On East restaurant and the adjacent Michael’s Wine Cellar. As a resident of Downtown Sarasota, he and his wife Terri frequently lend their talents, hospitality and support to local nonprofit organizations and enjoy being part of such a thriving cultural community. Michael has helped to establish the area’s biggest wine and food festivals and is co-founder of the Sarasota-Manatee Originals, an organization boasting more than 50 independent restaurants throughout Sarasota and Manatee Counties. He also proudly serves as current board chair of Visit Sarasota County and board member of Sarasota Crew.

Together, Michael and Terri have six children: Chad, Ceara, Kelly, Molly, Max and Mikayla and one grandchild, Nevaeh. As a family, the extended Klauber family has always enjoyed traveling together. For the past decade, Michael and Terri have hosted exclusive Gulf Coast Connoisseur Club journeys to many of the world’s most exotic food and wine destinations.

Rick Piccolo

Rick Piccolo

Fredrick Piccolo has over forty four years experience in the aviation industry and has been President, Chief Executive Officer of the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport since 1995. He began his career as a janitor at the Buffalo International Airport, and after earning a BS degree in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo, held several positions that include Building Superintendent, Property Manager, Assistant to Airport Manager, and Assistant Director of Operations. Locally, he worked in the the Operations Department at Tampa International Airport and prior to his position at SRQ, he was the Assistant Airport Director at the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Interational Airport.

Mr. Piccolo has served as President of the Florida Airports Council. He has achieved executive accreditation to the American Association of Airport Executives, the largest professional airport managers association in the world. Mr. Piccolo served as the 2007 Chair of the Airports Council International - North America (ACI-NA), an aviation organization that represents local, regional, state, and national governing bodies that own and operate commercial airports in the United States, Canada, and the Virgin Islands. He also serves as Chair on the Board of Directors of Airports Council International - World, which unites all the airports in the world into a single organization.

The Florida Department of Transportation selected Mr. Piccolo as the 2005 Aviation Professional of the Year. The Federal Aviation Adminstration also chose him as the 2005 Airport Manager of the Year. In October 2009, Airport Revenue News announced Mar. Piccolo as the winner of the "Small Airport CEO of the Year for 2009." Members of the aviation industry nationwide vote on this award.

Mr. Piccolo is past Chair of the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is a past recipient of the Premier Volunteer Award, an honor given for his significant leadership commitment to the Chamber and community.

On a personal note, Mr. Piccolo is married wiht three sons, and two grandchildren.

Joe Barbetta

Joe Barbetta

Joe Barbetta was first elected to the Sarasota County Commission in 2006 and served for eight years. He is admitted to the New York and Florida Bar and also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Joe graduated from LaSalle Military Institute in Troy, NY, and then received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Fordham University in New York City. He then earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) Degree from Union University-Albany Law School in Albany, NY. He previously practiced law in Clifton Park, NY in the areas of real estate development, planning, zoning and land use.

Joe is a former member and Chairman of the Sarasota County Planning Commission, serving on that board for 14-1/2 years. He is also a member of the Sarasota County Bar Association, The Urban Land Institute, Sarasota Tiger Bay Club, and a current Board member of the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Sarasota Alliance. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County, Visit Sarasota, and the Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization. He is also an Eagle Scout.

He was a founding board member of Rebuild Sarasota, a division of Habitat for Humanity and a founding board member of the Sarasota Area Sports Authority. Barbetta is also active in several other civic organizations in the Sarasota County area.
